including Guest Speakers: ‘Volunteers of Willowbrook Hospice’
Tuesday 17th November 2015
Following the Annual Meeting formalities, during which Edna North was re-elected President for a further twelve months, we welcomed Emily, a fundraising co-ordinator from Willowbrook Hospice along with volunteer of 20 years, Janet.
Emily told us of the history of the hospice which was built in 1997 and of the new building being redeveloped at Alexandra Park, which will house some of the administrative departments. Along with providing wonderful nursing care to the patients, the hospice organises a number of fund-raising activities that go on throughout the year, some of the activities include – the Moonlight Walk, Bike Rides, Lottery draws & raffles to name but a few. This December the hospice is teaming up with the Steve Prescott Foundation to run a ‘Santa Dash’.
The hospice now has a shop and a cafe open to the public.
Vounteer Janet explained why she got involved in volunteering at the hospice and of the satisfaction she gets from being involved and the friends she has made over the years. Janet thoroughly recommends anyone becoming a volunteer.
