‘NW Blood Bank Bikers’
Tuesday 16th July 2019
At our July meeting we had the pleasure of meeting Norman, a ‘Blood Biker’ for Merseyside & Cheshire Blood Bikes. Established back in 2010, Norman told us of how Blood Bikes was started and that their aim is to save the NHS money. The bikers go through a high standard of training and offer services across the whole of the North West. There are 45 Blood Bike groups across the UK and 6 in Ireland.
Apart from carrying blood, the bikers have also been known to carry vital organs and even donated Breast milk! 15-20% of riders are women but the majority of ladies working in the service operate the switchboards. Thank you Norman for a most interesting and very educational evening. If you would like to know more about the work of the Blood Bikers visit: https://nwbb-lancs.org/
