For our 18th June meeting we welcomed the current Liverpool Town Crier, Terry Stubbings. Terry has been a Town Crier for 21 years in both Lincoln & Liverpool and is currently employed by the Liverpool Cruise Liner Terminal greeting passengers as they disembark to visit the city.
Dressed in full Town Crier regalia Terry told us of the history of town criers dating back to Norman times, along with his experience at winning the British Championship of Town Criers to telling us of his audition to become Liverpool’s first Town Crier for 200 years. Terry likes to compose his ‘cries’ in rhyme and he entertained us with his cry for the City of Liverpool – though not as loud as he normally would! – It was extremely witty and captured many Liverpool landmarks and treasures.
